Word to the prudent - If you are ever thinking of doing a panel rebuild
in your plane check out all others before going to A.R. Once bitten
twice shy!

I have hear good things about them and their panel looks nice, but have
no personal experience. What was the problem.

Yes, they do look nice but the problem comes with the paper work or
lack there of. Unless the panel replicates what exists in your plane
the mod is considered a "major repair" and needs at STC, PMA . Avion
soes not provide this. My 170 was modified extensively about 6 years
ago by the former owner. Other 170 owners have also done this mod. It
is an easily over looked item when one buys an airplane. A new buyer
focuses on damage history and airframe and engine times. The reality
is you need the paper work for this mod. Those that have purchased
directly ( I have not) from Avion claim that Avion "promised" to
provide the paperwork but they do not follow through. I am in the
process of trying to get a field check. FWIW

Sheds a little light on Avion's stand on the issue. Not saying it's good
nor bad, only interesting and Buyer Beware.

Almost any major avionics shop will fabricate a new modern flat panel
*AND* do a 337. All they need is a CNC machine and some aluminum.
Getting a silkscreener or engraver to add placards is a nice touch,
too.
Avion has had a good share of bad user experiences that I've read in
various sites. So, for the cost of the panel plus your own(or A&P's)
labor, you'd be better served to have a shop do it.
